Suomi added to World Baseball Classic Roster

OTTAWA- Baseball Canada would like to announce that C John Suomi (Toronto, ON) has been added to Canada's Roster for the upcoming World Baseball Classic.
Suomi replaces C Russell Martin (Montréal, QC) who has withdrawn from participating in the tournament.
Suomi is a member of the Philadelphia Phillies organization and spent the 2012 season at Triple-A Lehigh Valley where he hit .265 with 4 home runs and 18 RBI in 64 games. Suomi was originally selected by the Oakland Athletics in the 22nd round of the 2000 MLB Draft.
The World Baseball Classic will be Suomi’s first opportunity to represent Canada internationally.
